How to Obtain the SLC™- the International Sailing License

Going on a sailing vacation in Greece, Italy, Croatia, Spain, France, Turkey? In the past you needed the ICC (International Certificate of Competence), something that was very difficult for North Americans to obtain, as there are very few RYA schools (1 in the USA and 3 in Canada) able to issue it.

Now, the NauticEd SLC is accepted as a valid sailing license for bareboat chartering by all port authorities and yacht charter companies operating in the Mediterranean.  Santana Sailing is authorized to conduct the practical on-the-water sailing skills assessment portion of the SLC. The assessment takes approximately 6 hours to complete. Marc Hughston, an accomplished sailor and experienced instructor, will be your assessor.

WHERE CAN I OBTAIN MY SLC? Santana Sailing is currently offering training and certification in two venues: 1) Southern CA, in LA/Long Beach and Newport Beach; 2) Sea of Cortez in Baja California Sur, Mexico.

OPTION 1: Take a one-week cruise in Baja, Mexico’s beautiful Sea of Cortez. See our SLC and Bareboat Charter Master trips scheduled for 2019.

OPTION 2: Take a one day SLC assessment in LA/Long Beach or Newport Beach, CA. This can be combined with one or more days of training prior to the assessment for a “on the water skills refresher course.” See the LA/Long Beach training/assessment schedule. Newport Beach training and assessment days are scheduled upon request.
